Christmas aftermath [26 Dec 2009|11:13am]

weisshund
Yesterday I went over to my sister-Meal in-law's crew in Northville. Dinner was Thanksgiving redux: turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, etc.

I received a Best Buy gift card and accessories for the redone bathroom. So today I decided to see if I could find a sweater to replace one I wear a lot for work, but has a hole in it. Drove over to Kohl's and it looked as if the vultures had picked the carcass clean. I was in and out in five minutes, not finding anything. I'll wait until later in the week and try a different store.

Spoke with Llama briefly yesterday. He's ecstatic as both Chibis were expected to arrive for Christmas. That is an extreme rarity.

So. Um.

:).

From non-immediate family:
A billion Christmas cards. Best design award blatantly goes to [info]bindaroonie, will try and get a photo later to demonstrate why because I nearly cried laughing. It's a work of beauty and genius. Best message; ffffff, EVERYONE. I got porn and silliness and sweetness and d'aww. You guys are epic.
Karla on DVD from [info]lilka
Gorgeous lip-balm things from [info]snakewhissperer
Socks a-plenty from [info]debb and [info]misskalloway
Music CDs from [info]not_cynical
A bottle of chianti from Ron at work
A stuff-bucket from eldest maternal Aunty
A bag from our lovely slightly nutty neighbour down the road <3

And off the immediate family:
New PJs (pictures not forthcoming as they're an ill fit, but I don't care :P, PJs are always comfy)
New undies (which are a good fit, pictures still not forthcoming because - yeah, undies)
Neon yellow skull and crossbones legwarmers because my mum is insane omg
A lime
£1.03-ish in shiny pennies
A reindeer teddy and mug
Thorntons chocolates
Maltesers
Terminator: Salvation on DVD
Batman: Arkham Asylum for PS3
A Muse calendar
A gorgeous, gorgeous green home-made scarf from mum <3
A bell
MOTHERFUCKING MUSE TICKETS
NEW SHINY PHONE OMGGGGGG

And, um, think that's everything.

I wanted this year to be over so fast at the start of it. Now? I kind of don't want it to end. Seriously; best year ever. I'm now off to bed to fart off the post-turkey gas because seriously, that stuff could inflate and/or choke a donkey.

And I am overjoyed with the feedback I've had on my (totes secret) Stargate: Atlantis, Good Omens and Supernatural secret santa fics <3 <3 <3. Can't wait to finally get to link you all to them!

I hope you all had an amazing, amazing Christmas. And for those of you who haven't, I hope your New Year will pwn as hard as Christmas should have. Actually, I hope EVERYONE'S New Year will pwn - you guys and girls are gorgeous, awesome people and I love you, I love that you guys, my irl friends and my family are 99% of the reason this year's been so phenomenal in the finish.

And even if Star Trek was my little sister's prezzie this year, not mine, I would like to see your Christmas off with a spirit true to it ;).

Live long, and prosper!

Merry Christmas! [25 Dec 2009|05:53pm]

dusktodawn
To you all! This weekend has been tons of fun and we've been relaxing and hanging out with his dad and them this weekend in JAcksonville, FL.

Also, the night we got here, I had a dream about a lovely tiger lady and drew her as I saw her and then colored her with my pencils and markers. No, i'm not the best with them just yet, but i'm working on it :) She's a lot better in person cause the silver shines and she sparkles.

Photobucket

Phone picture is all i've got right now till I get home :>
:)

Thank you SO much Kelly for the moon lady! she's absolutely beautiful :D

Before this becomes a habit [25 Dec 2009|12:30pm]

Hey everyone, thank you for your well wishes this morning.

I got to find a nice surprise in my cellphone, as everyone seemed to text me their merriment to me. Thanks guys.

Just, as I've said before, I don't have a texting plan. AT&T also gets the Christmas Cheer this year with every text you send me.

So before anyone else decides to give me their well wishing, I'll just say, thanks in advance. You can just leave a comment here, but please refrain from texting me. It's a gesture I appreciate, but would rather not have to pay for.

Is it time for a soppy Christmas message? Because I think it's time for a soppy Christmas message. [24 Dec 2009|03:23pm]

Pretty much all of you know that I am, in my own funny little way, a Christian. I talk about it from time to time but I'm not generally a WOAH HEY WOO YEAH IN YOUR FACE WOOOOOO Christian for a few reasons; first, I think to do so would be a bit dickish, and I don't like being dickish. Second, I write blasphemous porn - I don't really get to claim the moral high ground. Third, I'm a firm believer in "Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words" because St Francis of Assisi rocked.

I don't particularly believe we own this holiday - with Yule and Hanukkah and about fifty other holidays coinciding with midwinter, and with most anyone knowing full well that Jesus wouldn't have actually been born at this time of year, it'd be outright daft to claim ownership. Claiming ownership of a midwinter festival is about as silly as claiming ownership of all beer, or ownership of particularly nice sunsets. And in all fairness, modern Christmas is more a combination of all the best bits from the various holidays - getting together with people you love (or are at least supposed to love), putting up a tree and decorations, dancing and getting absolutely bungalowed at parties, kissing under mistletoe, hanging up stockings, exchanging cards and presents and messages of love and peace and goodwill.

Christmas, I will admit, I love just as much religiously as I do secularly. Strimming out the extras - the virgin birth borrowed from one religion, the journey borrowed to fit better with certain prophecies etc - down to the basics, Christmas as a religious holiday is basically celebrating the idea that some few thousand years ago a baby was born who would later grow up to say that actually, God loves everyone, yes, even you, that one over there in the corner going >:(. That's the religious side of it for me, and I love that it's one of the few Christian holidays that is focused on hope and not on "And then this guy/girl suffered for you/God/God and you. Suffered like woah. Cherish your Guiiiiiilt". This is a holiday that basically has a spirit of "Things are pretty okay! Anyone for scrabble later?".

Secularly, I love presents. I love receiving them, I love giving them, I love that I get to spend today wearing brand new socks (and I am a firm believer there are few better simple pleasures than new socks, even if some people think they're a silly gift). I love making other people happy, too; even if they don't know it was me who did it. And I love it when people make each other happy, even if they probably aren't aware that they're doing so; when you overhear a hilarious conversation on the train, or you spot an old couple holding hands, or you see someone just generally being decent to someone else. It makes you feel a little bit warmer, a little bit fuzzier, and a little bit lighter.

I love the Christmas holidays because they're just about the one time of year in the western world where everyone tries to love everyone else, by and large. And Charles Dickens, that great advocate of all things Christmassy, did say that no one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it to anyone else. As much as it's "just a holiday", and it's ridiculously over-commercialised, there's still a fundamental search for joy, a fundamental desire for everyone to be happier and more at peace running underneath all the silliness, and that's what I celebrate Christmas for.

Well. That and the free socks.

I think to round the year off, as I'm stuck in work about half of the days between now and New Year's Day, I fancy seeing how many things from my to-do list I can blitz through. I'm not going to touch on the IRL things as they take faaaaaar too much energy when I'm already exhausted, but ficcing/otherwise making fanwork is just as much fun when I'm half-asleep as it is normally, so ;).

- Send Springkink prompts list to animadri
- Organise recs

Or anything from this list. Erm. )

Dear sky;

Pretty sure you shouldn't be smoked salmon gingery-pink. Just sayin'. In fact, could you, you know, stop being that colour, as it's really more than a tiny tad disturbing.

...

Okay, the slow segway into dustcloud yellowy-orange is no less disturbing.

Xmas in the mail [21 Dec 2009|12:02pm]

Hurray! Mailman brought some Christmas gifts in the mai. Thank you, [info]yanagi_sen. I'm also glad that the three doujinshi I ordered from Japan came today. That was a present for myself.

Apparently country singer Toby Keith is opening a restaurant, I Love this Bar and Grill, in Great Lakes Crossing in January. An item in Freep said there is a job fair. The only celebrity themed restaurant i've ever been to is Planet Hollywood in San Diego about 15 years ago.

"The fall of the JRPG in large part is due to a lack of evolution, a lack of progression," BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk told Destructoid last week. "They kept delivering the same thing over and over. They make the dressing better, they look prettier, but it's still the same experience".

"My favorite thing, it's funny when you still see it, but the joke of some of the dialogue systems where it asks, 'do you wanna do this or this,' and you say no. 'Do you wanna do this or this?' No. 'Do you wanna do this or this?' No. Lemme think — you want me to say 'yes.' And that, unfortunately, really characterized the JRPG."

This man speaks the truth.

A year of uncertainty [20 Dec 2009|04:47pm]

weisshund
[ mood | apathetic ]

As 2009 winds to a close, looking forward to 2010 yields a lot of uncertainty. It'll be reflected in the tax returns of my clients with lower incomes and tales of scrambling to pay bills.I'm apprehensive about the coming tax season with the newly appointed manager. She claims we'll be all work together as a team. We've all heard that before and then management disassembles a cohesive group. Heck, the office can run by itself. Supposedly, the office is slated to close after April 15 for go unless a miracle occurs. The office I probably would transfer to was sold to a franchise, so it's up in the air where I work in 2011. I'm keeping all options open, but hopefully I might work in the Livonia district (it's only 2 miles from home).Downside is I'd be basically starting from scratch.

How come every time I get to the end of a Dean and Castiel fic I'm always left with one scene to finish where they're meant to talk to each other and they won't just GET ON WITH IT.

FFFFFF GUYS MEANINGFUL SILENCES ARE NOT EASY TO CONVEY IN WRITING OMG I AM NOT THAT TALENTED THANKS. JUST. AT LEAST GESTURE OR SOMETHING, BECAUSE I CANNOT WRITE "AND THEN THEY EYE-FUCKED FOR LIKE AN HOUR" IN SRS BZNSS FIC.

In other news, I'm really tempted to give a longer Sassy piece a go, but there's a little part of me that feels guilty for turning away from the crack for a moment to do so.

Damnit Sam, why do you have such a pookum, I just want to make things better for you in everything.
